2012 Bunnamagoo Estate Merlot
Although both vineyards are in the Central Ranges of New South Wales they differ markedly in their terroir. Bunnamagoo has one of the coolest climates in Australia. That, together with its deep volcanic basalt soils results in wines of distinctive regional style. At Eurunderee the warmer climate and variable soils under laid with limestone produce wines with subtle nuances quite different from those from Bunnamagoo. The winery is located at Eurunderee where the grapes are treated with the individuality that they deserve.
Maturation in a mixture of new but predominately older French oak barriques over 12 months has softened the tannins and added hints of vanilla and toast to complete the finished wine.
Flavours of blackberry and dark cherry with characters of blood plum. The fruit was harvested and fermented in small batches according to ripeness and flavour profile. The resulting blend shows layers of jammy plum, potpourri and chocolate characters. Best food to go with the wine is Beef Bourguignon.
