Durif was introduced to Australia  in 1908, some 70 years after the arrival of the first Barossa Deutsche. Durif fruit is rich, inky and violet in colour, and as a single varietal, Durif is a full bodied wine with high levels of tannis that require taming through extended barrel maturation.

The Steinborner Family Vineyards’ Barossa Colossus has spent 4 years in a blend of French and American Oak developing its' distinctive character.

Durif is this dark violet wine is bursting with mouth staining black fruit flavours as well as hints of spice and black liquorice. While Durif can be overly massive in alcohol and tannin, in the Barossa Colossus we’ve retained the scale of the Titan whilst sculpting a beautiful Barossa effigy.

The wine is drinking well now, however careful cellaring will be rewarded.
